Introducing erasures in decision-feedback equalization to reduce error propagation

چکیده

A simple modification of the decision feedback equalizer (DFE) slicer is proposed to reduce the effect of error propagation. A comparison of the performance of the modified DFE and conventional DFE is made for specific channels. On these channels, modified DFE performs only marginally better than the conventional DFE in terms of average error probability, but may offer some advantages in terms of error probability conditioned on specific input sequences and in terms of the distribution of error burst lengths. Some examples are given, concerning binary PAM and multilevel quadrature amplitude modulation (M–QAM) systems.

Techniques for Minimizing Error Propagation in Decision Feedback Detectors for Recording Channels

Decision feedback equalization (DFE) is a low-cost approach for signal detection in magnetic recording channels. However, it suffers from the phenomenon of error propagation (EP). In this paper, two approaches are proposed for minimizing EP in DFE. The first approach imposes appropriate constraints on the feedback equalizer. The second approach uses simple threshold techniques to detect the pre...

Mitigating error propagation effects in a decision feedback equalizer

We present an approximate analysis approach to the computation of probability of error and mean burst error length for a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) that takes into account feedback of decision errors. The method uses a reduced-state Markov model of the feedback process and is applicable to linear modulation formats. We use this technique to analyze a DFE design that mitigates the effects...

Hybrid Two-Stage Decision-Feedback Equalization for Single-Carrier Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Systems

A single-carrier multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with frequency-selective channels suffers from the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and the co-channel interference (CCI). To eliminate both type of interference, we propose in this letter a hybrid two-stage decisionfeedback equalizer (HTS-DFE), which performs the frequency-domain equalization (FDE) in the first stage and the layered ...

Performance analysis of the weighted decision feedback equalizer

In this paper, we analyze the behavior of the Weighted Decision Feedback Equalizer (WDFE), mainly from filtering properties aspects. This equalizer offers the advantage of limiting the error propagation phenomenon. It is well known that this problem is the main drawback of Decision Feedback Equalizers (DFEs), and due to this drawback DFEs are not used very often in practice in severe channels (...
